Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Hamed Sattar, Director of the Institute of Energy and Environmental Engineering (IEEE), and the technical supervision of Project Lead Dr. Syed Sheraz Daood, the Institute won the prestigious Technology Award in Engineering and Advanced Materials at the 10th Invention to Innovation Summit 2025 organized by ORIC-PU. The award recognizes a successful industrial collaboration involving the full-scale commercial demonstration of an innovative fuel additive-based technology on a bagasse-fired boiler—an industry-first in Pakistan. This applied research has significantly enhanced industrial boiler efficiency, reduced emissions, and promoted sustainability. This research on the development of novel agglomeration additives for sustainable combustion in power and utility plants can strengthen both local applications and export potential. Dr. Daood and Prof. Sattar plan to file a patent to further protect and promote the innovation. Mr. Kashif Saleem Butt, an MSc Energy and Environmental Engineering student and Chief Engineer at SNGPL, contributed to the project, exemplifying the Institute’s focus on bridging academia and industry. This achievement reflects the Institute’s mission to drive impactful research, foster strong industry-academia collaboration, and cultivate professionals committed to sustainable development in the energy and environmental sectors.
